Primas terceras (third cousins)

     Recientemente, se casó en Londres mi sobrina nieta Violeta Casero Romero, nieta de mi hermano Julio.

    Recently, my great-niece Violeta Casero Romero—the granddaughter of my brother Julio—got married in London.

    También recientemente, terminó sus estudios escolares (una especie de graduación a los 16 años) Summer Zarco, nieta de mi primo Ramón Zarco Lores.

    Also recently, Summer Zarco—the granddaughter of my cousin Ramón Zarco Lores—completed her schooling in London (a sort of graduation at age 16).

    Esa coincidencia en espacio y tiempo me ha hecho reflexionar. ¿Se conocerán estas dos chicas? ¿Sabrán que tienen una prima tercera viviendo cerca?

    That coincidence of time and place has made me reflect. Do these two girls know each other? Do they know they have a third cousin living nearby?

    Como quiera que ni los milenials ni los centenials se preocupan mucho por la familia, más allá del primer o segundo grado de parentesco, he redactado este pequeño informe gráfico para intentar solucionar ese desencuentro o ignorancia.

    Since neither Millennials nor Gen Zers tend to concern themselves much with family beyond the first or second degree of kinship, I have put together this brief illustrated report to try to remedy that disconnect or lack of awareness.

1.– Tatarabuelos comunes (common great-great-grandparents)

    Mis abuelos maternos, Virginia Hernández López (Puerto de Santa María, 1889-1962) y José Zarco Moreno (Ubrique, hacia 1881? - Pto. de Sta. María, hacia 1954?).

2.– Bisabuelo de Summer (Summer's great-grandfather) y bisabuela de Violeta (Violeta's great-grandmother)

    En segunda fila los tres hijos de Virginia y José: a la izquierda mi tío Ramón Zarco Hernández, bisabuelo de Summer (El Puerto de Santa María, 1914-1987); a la derecha mi madre, Matilde Zarco Hernández (El Puerto de Sta. María 1916, Sevilla 1979), bisabuela de Violeta; en el centro, mi tío Manolo.

3.– Abuelo de Summer y abuelo de Violeta, primos hermanos (Summer's grandfather and Violeta's grandfather, first cousins)

    Ambos primos tuvieron mucho contacto en su infancia y adolescencia durante los veranos compartidos en casa de la abuela Virginia. 

    Both cousins ​​were in close contact during their childhood and adolescence, spending their summers together at Grandmother Virginia's house.

4.– Madre de Violeta y padre de Summer, primos segundos (Violeta's mother and Summer's father, second cousins)

    Rosa Romero Pizarro (nacida en Madrid, no hace demasiado tiempo) aparece en la foto junto a sus nietos Nilo (el mayor) y Noah en Londres. Todos vestidos para celebrar la boda de Violeta. Su primo segundo Antonio Paul Zarco (nacido en Londres o alrededores, tal vez algo después) es bombero en Londres. Ellos no se conocen. 

    Rosa Romero Pizarro (born in Madrid, not too long ago) appears in the photo in London alongside her grandsons Nilo (the eldest) and Noah. They are all dressed up to celebrate Violeta's wedding. Her second cousin Antonio Paul Zarco (born in London or the surrounding area, perhaps somewhat later) is a firefighter in London. They do not know each other.

5.– Primas terceras (third cousins)

    Ambas recordarán siempre estos días del verano de 2026. Y espero que no se olviden de que son primas. Aunque sean primas terceras no deben alvidar nunca a sus antepasados, ni deben ignorarse entre sí. Desde este humilde blog las felicito a las dos y espero que sepan honrar a sus padres y abuelos y demás familiares como sin duda merecen. 

    Both of them will always remember these days in the summer of 2026. And I hope they do not forget that they are cousins. Even though they are third cousins, they must never forget their ancestors, nor should they ignore one another. From this humble blog, I congratulate them both and hope they know how to honor their parents, grandparents, and other relatives, as they undoubtedly deserve.
